Why it Matters: Arizona Credit Union Day at the Capitol

Arizona credit unions are there for their members every day—helping people buy homes, build savings, recover from financial setbacks, and access fair, affordable financial services. But to keep doing that work, we also have to show up where policy decisions are made.

That’s why Credit Union Day at the Capitol is so important.

This year’s event takes place on March 12 in Phoenix, bringing credit union leaders together for a dedicated day of advocacy, education, and relationship-building with Arizona lawmakers and their credit union colleagues. Make plans to attend—and find more information here.

Policymakers Hear Our Voices

Credit unions are different by design: not-for-profit, member-owned cooperatives that exist to serve people—not shareholders. Credit unions have made tremendous progress with legislators, and this is an opportunity to reinforce the credit union difference.

It’s a focused moment to connect face-to-face with lawmakers, remind them again who credit unions are, and the role we play in helping Arizona families and communities thrive. It’s also a chance to make sure policymakers understand what credit unions need to keep meeting the moment—especially as consumer expectations and financial services evolve.

Credit Union Day at the Capitol also offers valuable opportunities to connect and collaborate with peers from across the state. Advocates can strengthen relationships with fellow credit union leaders, exchange ideas and best practices, and build the partnerships that help power a strong, unified credit union voice. These connections foster collaboration beyond the event and support continued advocacy efforts throughout the year.

Connecting Credit Unions and Opportunity – Special Guest Speaker

We’re pleased to welcome Danny Seiden, President and CEO of the Arizona Chamber of Commerce & Industry, as a guest speaker at this year’s Credit Union Day at the Capitol. With more than 16 years of experience in public affairs, government relations, and legal strategy, Danny will share insights on how credit unions support economic growth through small business lending, workforce housing, and expanded access to financial services. Prior to joining the Arizona Chamber of Commerce & Industry, he served as general counsel to Valor Global, helping guide growth and public affairs efforts in Arizona, Washington, and other states. Additionally, he previously served as the deputy chief of staff to Governor Doug Ducey.

Priority Legislation – Modernizing for Financial Freedom

Credit unions are working hard to pass important legislation, HB 2979, the Arizona Credit Union Modernization Act.

The legislation is about offering more choices and more services for Arizonans, empowering Arizona credit unions to better respond to consumer needs in today’s financial environment. Credit unions’ engagement throughout the session and at Day at the Capitol will help pass the bill.

When lawmakers understand credit unions, they’re more likely to support policies, like these proposed updates, that help us better serve members.
