First Major Deadlines Passed in AZ Legislture
Posted by Brooke Parent on February 13, 2026
The Arizona Legislature is in full swing with the first major deadlines passed. Monday, February 2nd, marked the last day for Senators to introduce bills, and Monday, February 9th, marked the last day for House members to introduce legislation. In total, legislators introduced over 1,900 pieces of legislation. This marks the first major deadline for the legislative session.
The legislature is moving through the process now. Next week marks the last week for bills to be heard in committee from their chamber of origin. That means this is the last week for House bills to be heard in House committees and Senate bills in Senate committees. The only caveat is that the Appropriations committee meets one additional week; that deadline is the week of February 23rd.
If a bill is not heard in committee by next week, the bill is considered “dead.” However, a member can do what’s called a strike everything amendment and replace a bill with entirely new language. While this next week is an important deadline, there is still time for legislation to make a comeback.
GoWest is monitoring a whole host of bills for Arizona credit unions. As these deadlines pass, we are able to streamline which ones will continue to progress through the legislative process.
