Joint Appropriations Committee Works on Budget Ahead of Session
Posted by Bobbie Frank on January 12, 2026
This week wraps up the Joint Appropriations Committee’s work on the biennium budget prior to the February 9 legislative session.
This week, the committee will work on the budget as proposed by the Governor. This follows three weeks of budget hearings when the committee hears from the Governor and all agencies funded through the state’s budget.
Today’s work started off as anticipated and announced by the House Appropriation Committee Freedom Caucus Majority with a trend of cutting budget and denying some exception requests. Once the committee completes its work, a budget bill reflecting their actions will be published as Senate File 1 and House Bill 1. Both houses work the budget concurrently.
Committee deliberations can be watched on the Legislative Service Office YouTube channel.
