A Dazzling Display of Generosity: CU4Kids Auction Raises $1.53 Million

On Oct. 15, credit union leaders and business solutions partners came together under the big top to raise an astounding $1.53 million for Children’s Miracle Network (CMN) Hospitals across the GoWest region. The annual Credit Unions for Kids (CU4Kids) auction, held during GoWest’s MAXX event in Portland, continues a legacy of generosity that began in the GoWest region in the mid-1980s. CU4Kids has since grown into the national “charity of choice” for the Credit Union Movement.

This year’s theme, “A Night of Wonder,” transformed the auction into a vintage circus spectacle. Attendees donned whimsical costumes and bid on Radio Flyer Hero Wagons destined for children at the 11 CMN Hospitals in the region. The evening featured dazzling entertainment from comedian and magician Zach Waldman, a special wine auction, and an appearance by Dr. Dana Braner — all culminating in a high-energy paddle raise that shattered previous records.

“Under the glow of the circus lights, our credit union community proved once again that the greatest show on earth is the one where we come together for kids,” said GoWest President and CEO Troy Stang. “With hearts as big as the big top, we didn’t just raise funds — we raised hope, joy, and a future full of possibilities. When credit unions unite, the magic is real.”

A highlight of the evening was nine-year-old Hazel and her family, this year’s CU4Kids Champion Family. Hazel was diagnosed with a rare genetic disorder at just six months old, causing seizures and developmental challenges. Thanks to the expert care she receives at Doernbecher Children’s Hospital in Portland, Hazel is thriving today. Hazel’s father, Taylor, spoke of Hazel, her care at Doernbecher, and of her now being a thriving fourth grader.

In addition, the results of Pints With Purpose, the CU4Kids fundraiser hosted by Portland and Southwest Washington credit unions on Oct. 13, was revealed. A record $80,000 was raised, and Seth Schaefer, Rivermark Community Credit Union‘s EVP and Chief Impact Officer and member of CU4Kids’ national advisory board, was on hand to present the check.

It was an evening full of fun, excitement, and heartfelt moments — all in support of Credit Unions for Kids, the “charity of choice” for the Credit Union Movement.
