Colorado Credit Union Partners with Littleton VITA to Provide Free Tax Education and Preparation to Non-Profit Program Participants

This tax season, Colorado Credit Union collaborated with Littleton VITA to provide free tax education and preparation to several of their nonprofit partners. Littleton VITA is a volunteer-run program that provides free tax preparation assistance to individuals with limited financial resources, ensuring they receive the refunds and credits they’re eligible for. Through Colorado Credit Union’s partnerships with Dress for Success Denver and TGTHR to End Youth Homelessness, the credit union helped connect community members with vital tax resources.

As part of Colorado Credit Union’s financial education program with Dress for Success Denver, Littleton VITA volunteers led an informative tax education session, covering essential topics such as who should file taxes, key deadlines, and required documentation. Following this session, Littleton VITA volunteers provided one-on-one tax preparation at no cost, successfully filing tax returns for 11 program participants. Many of these women not only gained a deeper understanding of tax preparation but also had the opportunity to file multiple years of overdue tax returns.

Additionally, Colorado Credit Union facilitated a partnership between Littleton VITA and TGTHR to End Youth Homelessness, bringing tax assistance directly to young adults in supportive housing. Littleton VITA volunteers completed tax returns for 14 young adults, many of whom, despite being unemployed while enrolled in school or workforce programs, were able to claim tax refunds they might have otherwise missed.

This partnership is an example of how community partnership and financial education can impact lives, and Colorado Credit Union is looking forward to building on this work in future tax seasons to support even more communities.
