Do you have a passion for policy? Our association is looking for leader to actively coordinate with regulators, shape state and federal regulatory agendas, offer association members dependable guidance, and improve the environment for credit unions.
Our six-state trade association is looking for a Director, Regulatory Advocacy, to help manage the work with related state and federal regulatory advocacy. The ideal candidate will have a passion for policy, a talent for collaboration, and a focus on improving the operating environment for credit unions.

This position offers the flexibility of working remotely from within one of our regional states (AZ, CO, ID, OR, WA, & WY) or in one of our offices (AZ, CO, ID, OR, & WA).
Key responsibilities include, but not limited to:
- Lead regulatory advocacy efforts to promote operational flexibility and prevent promulgation of harmful or overly burdensome regulations.
- Develop and execute strategies to modernize state and federal credit unions’ operating environment, as well as the Federal Credit Union Act and state-specific credit union acts.
- Research and identify statutory and regulatory barriers to innovation and growth, and work with stakeholders to build consensus on reforms.
- Build and maintain relationships with leadership and key staff at member credit unions to understand operational challenges and future regulatory needs.
- Cultivate and maintain productive relationships with key state and federal regulators, including CFPB, NCUA, state supervisory agencies, and other financial regulatory bodies.
- Advocate for holistic improvements to the credit union examination process both at the state and federal level.
- Coordinate and lead regulator dialogues to maintain productive relationships and resolve challenges.
- Author comment letters to the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA), Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB), Federal Reserve, U.S. Department of the Treasury and other related federal agencies as well as assigned state regulatory agencies outlining members input for proposed rules and upcoming regulatory proposals.
- Recruit, prepare, and support credit union leaders to serve on regulatory agency advisory boards, task forces, and working groups.
- Develop and execute programming such as roundtables, briefings, and regulatory participation in conferences tailored to asset size, charter type, and region.
This position requires deep regulatory insight, strong communication, facilitation skills, and the ability to both think strategically and execute. A minimum of 3 years’ experience in regulatory affairs, financial services policy, government relations, or a related field. A bachelor’s degree in public policy, law, business, or a related field is preferred, but not required.
Salary ranges from $70 – $90k base salary, depending on experience. This position is eligible for a variable pay program with a potential 5% of base salary earnings. Employees (and dependents 50%) are covered by medical, dental, vision, life insurance, and short- and long-term disability. Employees are eligible to enroll in our 401k plan. New employees will accrue 15 days of vacation and 8 days of paid time off. In addition, employees will enjoy eleven paid holidays and two floating holidays.
