Giving Students a Strong Start: OnPoint Community Credit Union’s School Supply Drive Delivers Local Impact

During August, OnPoint Community Credit Union accepted school supply donations to help local teachers and students before the start of the new school year. On top of collecting supplies, OnPoint gave an additional $5 for every $1 that was donated to the KGW School Supply Drive at any OnPoint branch between Aug. 1-7. The credit union ended the month with a final donation of of $28,437 to Schoolhouse Supplies, a local nonprofit that provides free school supplies to under-resourced students and classrooms across the Portland area.

“Every student deserves to walk into the classroom feeling prepared for the year ahead,” said Rob Stuart, President and CEO, OnPoint Community Credit Union. “When our community comes together for this annual drive, we’re helping remove barriers to learning and giving students the opportunity to focus on what matters most. By partnering with Schoolhouse Supplies, we can reach even more local students and teachers. We encourage our members and neighbors to join us in making a difference.”

The drive, which ran from Aug. 1-31 aimed to send 15,000 students across Oregon and Southwest Washington back to school with the tools they need to succeed in the classroom, with all donations staying in the community in which they were made.

“We’ve seen how much of a burden purchasing school supplies can be for some families,” said Alice Forbes, Executive Director, Schoolhouse Supplies. “Community support through this drive helps ease that burden and gives students the opportunity to begin the school year feeling prepared and confident. We are thankful for OnPoint’s ongoing partnership and for bringing our community together to support local students.”
