Senate Confirms John Crews to NCUA Board

The U.S. Senate voted today to confirm John Crews to serve on the National Credit Union Administration Board. Crews was one of 74 nominees expected to be confirmed before the Senate leaves D.C. and travels back to their districts for the August recess.

The GoWest Regulatory Advocacy Team expects Crews to be sworn in and named as Chairman by the Administration soon and anticipates that he will likely hold his first Board meeting in September.

GoWest leaders have had the opportunity to meet with Crews on a number of important credit union issues during his service at the U.S. Department of the Treasury, and we look forward to working with him in his expected new role as Chairman of the NCUA Board.

During his confirmation hearing, he stated his top priority would be maintaining the safety, soundness, and resilience of the credit union system while recognizing the unique cooperative structure of credit unions. He also highlighted the need for an efficient, effective, and risk-based supervisory approach, allowing NCUA to focus its oversight where it is needed most while reducing unnecessary regulatory burden.
