Heart & Hustle: Credit Unions Step Up Big at the 2025 Phoenix Heart Walk

With more than 26,000 people stepping out on a sunny spring day in downtown Pheonix, this year’s American Heart Association (AHA) Heart Walk proved once again that the Valley is full of heart — and credit unions were right in the middle of the action.

Leading the way was Desert Financial Credit Union, which shattered its fundraising goal by raising over $162,000 in support of heart health initiatives. Executive Vice President Jack Biggs Jr. was named Chair for the 2026 Phoenix Heart Walk at the event, a reflection of Desert Financials’ ongoing commitment to the cause.

One AZ Credit Union also joined the event, further amplifying the Credit Union Movement’s collective impact in the fight against heart disease and stroke. The OneAZ team made a strong showing with a sponsorship, event booth, and 50 walkers who raised an impressive $19,322 — including a company match.

The event brought together families, local businesses, and community groups — all united around a common mission to save lives. This year’s Heart Walk has raised $1.4 million (and counting!), making a meaningful difference for the AHA’s life-saving work.

GoWest Credit Union Association President and CEO Troy Stang and Board Chair Jennifer Kutcher joined the walk alongside credit union teams, reinforcing the cooperative commitment to building healthier, stronger communities.

With every dollar raised and every mile walked, credit unions continue to prove: when it comes to making a difference, they never miss a beat.
