Express Credit Union Celebrates 90 Years of Serving the Community

Express Credit Union, headquartered in Seattle, announced its 90th anniversary, marking nearly a century of unwavering service to the community. Since its founding in 1934, Express Credit Union has been dedicated to providing accessible financial services, fostering economic empowerment, and supporting the financial well-being of its members.

Over the past nine decades, Express Credit Union has evolved from a small, local institution into a robust Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI). With a strong focus on inclusivity and community development, it has consistently strived to offer innovative products and services tailored to meet the unique needs of its diverse membership base.

Express Credit Union 90th Anniversary

“Our 90th anniversary is a testament to the trust and loyalty of our members, the dedication of our staff, and the support of our community,” said Elizabeth Escobar, Chief Business Officer. “We are honored to have served generations of members and look forward to continuing our mission of collaborating with our community to create access to financial opportunities.”

Express Credit Union is celebrating turning 90 all year with member appreciation events, promotional gear, and member rate promotions, such as our 9% CD on the 9th of every month.

On June 26, it hosted a large celebration with staff, members, volunteers, and supporters to celebrate 90 years together. In honor of its 90 years, Express Credit Union also collaborated with the community to create special videos documenting its journey. Watch the story unfold!

Today, Express Credit Union remains rooted in the same SODO neighborhood where it was founded. It prides itself on providing personalized, boutique-style service, where they know their members by name. Originally known as King St. Terminal Credit Union (KSTCU), the credit union has maintained close relationships with its members, some of whom have been with the credit union since the beginning. When faced with financial challenges in the mid-2000s, the credit union readjusted and repositioned itself to remain operational and relevant, evolving into the institution it is today. While its focus has broadened beyond serving transportation workers, the heart of its mission and the way Express Credit Union serves its community remains the same.
