CapEd Credit Union Invests in Idaho Families With the YMCA

The Downtown Boise YMCA’s vision of a state-of-the-art community hub took a significant step forward with the unveiling of a $5 million donation from CapEd Credit Union. This landmark gift not only helps pave the way for the Y’s new $80 million facility, but also secures CapEd’s legacy as the namesake for the future CapEd Downtown Boise YMCA.

“This extraordinary gift from CapEd exemplifies its unwavering commitment to the well-being and development of our community,” said David Duro, Treasure Valley Family YMCA President and CEO. “With the support of partners like CapEd, the Downtown Boise YMCA will not only be a state-of-the-art facility, but—building on our rich 130-year history—will be a beacon of hope and opportunity for generations to come.”

Todd Erickson, President and CEO of CapEd, echoed Duro’s sentiment, emphasizing CapEd’s dedication to fostering community health and wellness. “CapEd is honored to partner with the YMCA,” said Erickson. “By investing in initiatives that address critical community needs and promote social responsibility, we are collectively shaping a brighter future for all, and being true to our mission to enrich the communities we serve.”

While it’s played a pivotal role in downtown Boise since 1968, the current building needs costly repairs and faces too many challenges to make it viable for the Y’s future needs and ambitions. Thanks to a nearby revitalization project led by The Capital City Development Corporation (CCDC), the two organizations—along with other private and public partners—joined forces to simultaneously address the Y’s aging facility while fostering economic and social development in the community.

“The CapEd Downtown Boise YMCA will be like the heart of a big family, creating a network of support, energy, and community for all people living and working here,” said Duro.

The entire project embraces an integrated approach to all aspects of community wellness. For example, the new facility will feature intergenerational spaces, a maker-space filled with STEM exploration, a mindfulness studio, a T.H.R.I.V.E. center specifically designed to support children with diverse abilities and their families, and a CapEd Credit

Union branch geared to its growing membership and provide financial counseling and financial literacy to youth and adults alike. The Y will also build a 134-seat child development center as a part of the overall project, doubling the amount of much-needed early childcare available through the Y in the downtown area.

With the support of partners like CapEd, the Downtown Boise YMCA is poised to elevate its impact and create a lasting legacy of health, wellness, and opportunity for all.
