Feel the Vibe! It’s Colorado Credit Union Day at the Capitol

Why do 2.5 million Coloradoans love credit unions? How does the not-for-profit, cooperative structure deliver value to members and drive positive impact in communities? A force of more  than 200 advocates knows the answer, and it was shared with legislators at Colorado Credit Union Day at the Capitol.

The high-energy day started with a reception outside the Old Supreme Court Chambers, and it seems everyone accepted the invitation. Lawmakers eagerly leaned in to meet with credit union advocates from their districts. In addition to sharing the #CreditUnionDifference, top of mind is passing legislation recommended by the Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies (DORA) giving banks the option to sell to credit unions. Last week, the House Committee on Business Affairs and Labor voted 7-4 to advance the bill, as part of the Sunset process through which state agencies work to modernize their regulatory framework.

Honoring Advocates

Ent Credit Union and Canvas Credit Union were celebrated as 2023’s Top of the Hill credit unions for creating internal cultures of advocacy.

Tracie Wilcox, President and CEO of Golden, CO-based On Tap CU, was honored as the 2023 Advocate of the Year for her leadership in the state Governmental Affairs Committee and for active engagement during last year’s legislative session.

In addition to a morning reception attended by dozens of elected officials, advocates met with their representatives in hallway visits and in their offices. It was an epic day, one in which credit union voices were heard loud and clear!
