Solarity Credit Union Employees, Members Lifted Families’ Spirits During Annual Holiday Donation Drive
December 20, 2023
This holiday season, Santa’s little Solarity Credit Union helpers dropped off more than 90 toys, gift cards, and other items for two single moms and their children who are being served by Yakima YWCA.
Each year, YWCA asks businesses, organizations, and community members to adopt families utilizing YWCA services. This year, the community came together and adopted over 200 families – both in transitional housing and in the YWCA’s emergency shelter.
The Adopt-A-Family program is a favorite of employees at the Yakima, Washington-based Solarity Credit Union. This year, Solarity adopted two families with children ages 8 to 17 who wished for toys, coats, bikes, and beauty products. The mothers requested household goods and self-care items.
Solarity elves began collecting gifts the week after Thanksgiving. On Dec. 14, they loaded up a vehicle and arrived at YWCA Yakima to deliver the holiday cheer. Besides the toys and other gifts on the wish list, generous Solarity employees and members donated money, which allowed both moms to purchase additional items for their families.
“The families that the YWCA serves experience unimaginable difficulty,” said Solarity President and CEO Mina Worthington. “It is so gratifying to see our supportive employees and members donate generously to make the holidays a little brighter for them.”
“We are humbled by Solarity’s continued partnership. We can count on them throughout the year for support, and it means so much,” said YWCA Yakima’s Executive Director Cheri Kilty. “We are grateful to Solarity and so many others in our community who opened their hearts and wallets for these families – it’s so uplifting.”
In addition to the Adopt-A-Family holiday donation drive, Solarity employees support the YWCA throughout the year. They do this by designating a portion of their paychecks that go directly to the YWCA’s community partner fund. Solarity also spearheaded a fall coat drive and attends YWCA’s yearly fundraising luncheon that promotes its mission of eliminating racism, empowering women, standing up for social justice, helping families and strengthening the community.
