InRoads Credit Union Brings Financial Education Classes to People Navigating the Court System

InRoads Credit Union works with local treatment courts to present monthly financial education classes to individuals working to make life changes and escape the cycle of addiction, co-occurring disorders, criminal behavior, and court involvement.

In Columbia County, Ore., treatment courts are an alternative to normal case processing. The programs, including intensive supervision, support, and treatment, are designed to help individuals who are ready to make major life changes. While also proven to be effective at reducing repeat offenses, treatment courts also reduce overall costs and enhance public safety.

The specialized financial education course topics, presented by InRoads Community Development Coordinator and Manager and education expert Aimee Thompson, include creating long-term goals and using financial tools, understanding credit and debt, learning about income and taxes, protecting yourself through financial well-being, and smart savings and retirement planning.

“Community impact happens when organizations, community leaders, government agencies, and individuals come together to support one another,” shared Thompson. “InRoads is proud to be teaching these classes that identify financial wellness opportunities for success as people move through the treatment process.”

Treatment courts have been proven to be one of the most effective ways to reduce repeat offenses and help people escape the court system to lead normal, productive lives. These treatment courts are made available through a collaboration between the state, judicial department, city government, Columbia County, and private partners, such as InRoads Credit Union. Options currently include adult treatment court, family treatment court, veterans treatment court, and behavioral health court, including an impaired driving court coming soon.
