Credit Unions Give Back Across Washington’s Whatcom and Skagit Counties for International Credit Union Day

In celebration of International Credit Union Day on Oct. 15 and the cooperative spirit of the Credit Union Movement, WECU, Industrial Credit Union, North Coast Credit Union, NW Plus Credit Union, Global Credit Union, Harborstone Credit Union, and WestEdge Credit Union are joining forces with community organizations for a series of service and giving opportunities throughout Whatcom and Skagit counties.

“Credit unions have always been about people helping people, and this is a great example of what that looks like when we work together,” said Cherish Flint, Director of Advocacy at WECU. “International Credit Union Day gives us an opportunity to celebrate the credit union movement, but more importantly, it gives us an opportunity to put our values into action and show up for the communities we serve.”

Activities include:

Sept. 30: Bite of Reality financial simulation program at Blaine High School

Oct. 3: Volunteering with Tri-Parish Food Bank in Burlington

Oct. 8: Volunteering with Bellingham Food Bank

Oct. 10: Volunteering at Pass Lake Reforestation Project in Deception Pass State Park

Oct. 14: Blood drive with Bloodworks Northwest at WECU’s administrative office

Oct. 15: Volunteering with Helping Hands Food Bank in Sedro-Woolley

Oct. 15: A fundraising pint night for credit union professionals which will take place at Stemma Brewery and raise funds for Communities in Schools of Whatcom-Skagit

International Credit Union Day is celebrated annually by credit unions around the world and recognizes the cooperative movement and the role credit unions play in serving their members and communities.
