First Credit Union Awards $2,000 to Arizona Pet Owner Through Tails of Giving Campaign

First Credit Union recently awarded Chandler, Ariz.-area resident Kiley Jefferson $2,000 to help offset veterinary expenses for her eight-year-old Heeler mix, Rosie, as part of the credit union’s Tails of Giving campaign.

The check presentation took place at First Credit Union’s Chandler branch, celebrating the special bond between Kiley and Rosie while providing meaningful financial relief following an unexpected veterinary emergency.

First Credit Union launched Tails of Giving in partnership with HOT 97.5 and Squaw Peak Animal Hospital to recognize the important role pets play in Arizona families while helping ease the financial burden that can come with unexpected veterinary care.

“Pets are family, and we know that unexpected veterinary expenses can create real financial hardship,” said Jay Curtis, President and CEO of First Credit Union. “Through Tails of Giving, we’re proud to provide meaningful support while celebrating the incredible connection between people and their pets. As a credit union, our mission has always been to invest in the well-being of our members and our communities, and this initiative is another way we’re responding to the needs of Arizona families.”

The winners, Jefferson and her pup Rosie, were selected from a long list of heartfelt submissions. Here’s her story:

Earlier this year, Rosie injured her leg while playing fetch during a family dinner. After five days of emergency veterinary care, Kiley learned that surgery was the best option to help Rosie return to the active life she loved. While the procedure was successful, it also resulted in significant veterinary expenses and additional recommended care, including physical therapy and supplements.

For Kiley and her family, Rosie has long been much more than a pet. During Kiley’s college years, Rosie became known for going from room to room to comfort whoever needed a little extra love. But her closest bond was with Kiley’s father, Sean, affectionately known as Rosie’s “Grandpaw.” The pair spent their time together lounging by the pool, napping on the couch, and even heading to the golf course for brunch.

First Credit Union’s Tails of Giving campaign also extended its impact to local animal rescue organizations. First Credit Union hosted a statewide pet supply drive across its nine Arizona branches, collecting food, bedding, toys, cleaning supplies, and other needed items for Almost There Rescue, Lost Our Home Pet Rescue, and Pima Paws for Life.
