Legislative Days in Oregon Capitol

The Oregon Legislature just finished June interim legislative “Committee Days” that take place every three months. Committee days are the times between regular legislative session when lawmakers continue the work of governing, even though we are not in formal session at the Capitol.

The Emergency Board meets to augment the approved two-year budget with special expenditures like wildfire response. The Senate convened to approve gubernatorial appointments. House and Senate committees also meet to review ongoing issues, hear updates from state agencies, including an update from the Division of Financial Regulation, and examine how recently passed laws are working in practice.

It is also when we dig into emerging policy topics before they ever reach the floor for a vote. These discussions allow legislators to do deeper policy work without the time pressures of the session timelines. Your GoWest Association tracked several items including discussion on the state budget, tax policy, and consumer protection issues.  Stacie Wyss-Schoenborn, President and CEO of Central Willamette Credit Union went before the Senate Rules Committee on Monday and was voted on the Senate floor Wednesday to Chair the Business Oregon Commission.
