Unitus Community Credit Union Commitment Honored With Impact Award

Unitus Community Credit Union received the Inclusion and Belonging Corporate Impact Award from Portland Business Journal during the Philanthropy Summit and Impact Awards on April 21.

The annual awards are a celebration of the region’s most philanthropic companies of the past year and those who have broken new ground in how they give back.

Unitus Community Credit Union earned their Juntos Avanzamos (Together We Advance) designation in 2021. Juntos Avanzamos is a designation provided to credit unions committed to serving and empowering Latinos and immigrant communities by providing affordable financial services, bilingual support and culturally relevant financial solutions.

At Unitus, this designation reflects a long-term commitment, not a one-time milestone, to building trust and sustaining relationships within the communities we serve.

“This honor reflects the commitment by our Board and staff to empower and improve the financial lives of the Latino and immigrant communities,” said Megan Snyder, Chief Impact Officer for Unitus Community Credit Union. “Seeing the impact we’re making keeps us focused on our goal of financial inclusion for all.”

Since receiving this designation, Unitus has developed two impactful and complementary programs: the NW Juntos Avanzamos Roundtable and the Juntos Avanzamos Community Celebration.

2025 marked the third year Unitus hosted the NW Juntos Avanzamos Roundtable. With more than 40 attendees, representing 11 credit unions, nonprofits, and strategic partners, the working group developed actionable plans around three key topics:

  • International Remittances: learned about cross border payment solutions
  • Small Business Lending: discussed solutions and partnerships to support Latino small business growth
  • Cuenta Avanzamos Checking Accounts: through BankOn and designed for members with ITINs

The Celebration compliments the roundtable by serving as Unitus’ annual recommitment to our Juntos Avanzamos designation.

“Our members and our staff know the work we do is stronger when we work together,” said Unitus CEO Steven Stapp. “We model a cooperative spirit that reflects the credit union difference and our people helping people philosophy.”
