Washington revenue forecast revised upward, budget process awaits

The Washington State Capitol remains a hotbed of activity this week as legislators received the latest revenue forecast, cleared a key deadline for bills to pass on the floor, and prep for public release of each chamber’s budget proposals and action next week.
The state’s chief economist revised projected tax receipts upwards on Monday, helping simplify the process of updating the budget with slightly more revenue than what was projected when the original 2025-27 state budget passed in April last year. This key data point provides budget writers and finance leads with the information they need to lock in a proposal from the Senate and House Majorities. The House is expected to publicly release its spending and revenue plan this weekend with the Senate to follow early next week.
Additionally, Wednesday was the deadline for bills to be approved by the Senate or House — whichever chamber they were originally introduced in. That led to a 5pm deadline that saw yet another tranche of proposed policies officially end their journey for the year and further narrows the items under consideration.
Credit union priorities remain well positioned with bills of concern either having been amended to correct and address problems or failing to advance.
