90 Stories to Celebrate 90 Years. Peninsula Credit Union Shares Moments That Matter.
Posted by Alyse Knudsen on January 14, 2026
For Wash.-based Peninsula Credit Union, member service has always been more than transactions — it’s about relationships, trust, and showing up when it matters most. In 2025, the credit union found a powerful way to bring that philosophy to life by turning everyday acts of service into something lasting: 90 WOW Stories, shared in honor of its 90th anniversary.
WOW Stories have long been part of Peninsula’s internal culture, with branch and eServices teams regularly sharing meaningful member moments with leadership and the board. But last year, the credit union elevated the idea and intentionally spotlighted 90 real stories that captured how staff go above and beyond for members in big and small ways. The result was a yearlong celebration of the people it serves.
Each story was grounded in authenticity. To protect privacy, members were anonymized, but the impact remained deeply human. From helping a member navigate homeownership for the first time, to ensuring an older member could confidently take a long-awaited trip to see family, the stories highlighted the kind of care that doesn’t always show up in metrics but changes lives nonetheless.
“We began publishing WOW Stories on our blog, with social posts linking back to the content, but ultimately we found we were getting better engagement by posting the WOW Stories directly to Facebook and LinkedIn, keeping them short, positive, and easy to relate to,” shared Billy Thomas, Peninsula Credit Union’s Director of Marketing.
The stories are easy to read, uplifting, and unmistakably real. They resonated because they felt familiar: someone helping a neighbor, a problem solved with compassion, or a financial institution acting like a community partner.
In 2026, Peninsula plans to keep telling member stories — not as a campaign, but as a commitment. By continuing to share these moments, the credit union hopes to deepen trust, especially among underserved community members who may be hesitant to engage with traditional financial institutions.
The idea is simple, but the impact is powerful: tell the stories that already exist within your walls. Peninsula’s 90 WOW Stories prove that when credit unions center their people — and give those moments a voice — they don’t just celebrate milestones. They inspire connection, confidence, and community.
