Bringing Real-World Fraud Insight to Washington Lawmakers
Posted by Joe Adamack on December 11, 2025
State and federal lawmakers throughout the country have heard from constituents and financial institutions about the significant increase and challenges in combatting fraud and scams. Last week, iQ Credit Union’s VP of Risk Management, Katie Clark, had an incredible opportunity to present to the Washington State Consumer Protection and Business Committee about exactly what credit unions are experiencing and the steps they are taking to protect members.
These forums are essential for educating policymakers on emerging issues, while also demonstrating how credit unions lead with people-first solutions to prevent harm and respond when fraud occurs. Katie’s testimony humanized the member impact of scams and underscored why credit unions need better tools to protect their communities. This conversation comes at a pivotal time, as Washington and several other states are in active discussions to influence or direct legislation that would provide credit unions with enhanced tools without creating operational or legal hurdles.
