BECU Expands Reach in Pierce County With New Location Coming to Lakewood, Wash.

BECU, Washington’s largest credit union, will open a new Neighborhood Financial Center (NFC) in Lakewood this winter bringing in-person financial services to the 16,300 members who call the community home.

“Our Lakewood Neighborhood Financial Center will be our eighth location in Pierce County, as we look to support our growing membership in the area and further our community impact with local nonprofits,” said Jason Rudman, BECU’s Chief Member and Digital Experience Officer. “Especially with so many service members in the community, we know flexibility is important. Our location in Lakewood will offer both in-person and digital services — like video banking — to help our members access the services they need to reach their financial goals.”

Earlier this year, BECU opened its new Pierce County Financial Center in Tacoma, which offers full teller services. The new, 3,600-square-foot Lakewood NFC will offer in-person financial advice and support for opening new accounts, loans, mortgages, and more. It will also include space for digital services, where members can access financial support on-demand. The Lakewood NFC will complement existing Pierce County locations in Bonney Lake, Gig Harbor, Puyallup, Tacoma, and University Place in delivering a digital-first, human always experience.

As BECU continues to meet the evolving needs of its members, the credit union has recently added locations in White Center and Spokane-South Hill and also announced plans for future locations in Kirkland, Stanwood, Bainbridge Island, and Duvall.

Purpose-Driven Focus

BECU has a long history in Pierce County, opening its first Tacoma location in 2004. In that time, the credit union has grown its partnerships with local nonprofits like Rebuilding Together South Sound, Sound Outreach, and United Way of Pierce County. In 2024, BECU contributed $9.2 million to hundreds of nonprofits across the communities it serves, including $285,000 in Pierce County.

The credit union expects to hire six employees at its Lakewood location.
