Calling all Advocates: STOP Misguided Legislation in Washington State!

HB 1506–taxing credit unions– will receive a public hearing in the House Finance Committee on Tuesday, Feb. 18. Even though this has been framed as a courtesy hearing to the sponsor, we will always treat scenarios like this as a threat to Washington credit unions and your members.

We will share more about the hearing plan shortly, but in the meantime, we are asking each of you to register your opposition in the legislative system and share this incredibly broadly with your internal teams and with any community partners that would be impacted.

Reminder: While the bill only applies when a credit union purchases bank assets, it is poorly written and could be construed much more broadly. Even if you will never purchase bank assets or have a federal charter and this will not apply to you, this bill is a proxy for the sponsor’s broader interest in taxing all credit unions, so we ask that all credit unions voice their collective opposition.

Instructions on how to sign in “CON” on the bill are below and linked here.

Again, please share broadly and immediately as we only have until the end of the day Monday to accumulate as many individuals as possible signing in to oppose the bill.
