Wash. and Ore.-based Fibre Federal Credit Union aims to improve the health and wellness of the communities it serves, beginning with its youngest residents. Fibre Federal’s largest passion project is fundraising for OHSU Doernbecher Children’s Hospital to help ensure every child receives the top-notch care they need, regardless of their family’s ability to pay.
Since 2010, Fibre Federal has raised $614,000 through its fundraising efforts for Doernbecher, and every penny has supported the children’s hospital. During the credit union’s six-week Doernbecher Days fundraiser in the fall, staff sold plush llamas and paper donation balloons in all 16 locations. Doernbecher Days in 2024 yielded $25,100 in donations and 650 plush llamas were purchased and donated back to young patients.
Additionally, Fibre Federal continued its long-running casual days fundraiser for employees. For a $10 donation per month, staff may wear branded casual clothing to bring awareness to the Credit Unions for Kids program. In 1986, Fibre Federal and other Pacific Northwest credit unions united founded Credit Unions for Kids, a collaborative charity program benefiting Doernbecher, and over the years, the program has grown to support 170 Children’s Miracle Network hospitals nationwide.
By the end of 2024, Fibre Federal oversaw $62,184 in donations to Doernbecher Children’s Hospital, the largest fundraising total for the credit union in six years. Fibre Federal aims to continue that momentum going forward in 2025.
