Washington State’s 2025 Fed Congressional Delegation Becomes Clearer After Initial Ballot Returns
Posted by Joe Adamack on November 6, 2024

The state’s congressional delegation has been consistent over many years, with this year featuring the most intrigue in recent history as a result of competitive seats, inter-party challenges, and a few retirements.
As anticipated it is a tight race in SW Washington. After initial returns first term Democratic Congresswoman Marie Gluesenkamp Perez leads Republican challenger Joe Kent although it’s still too early to call the race and we will continue tracking daily ballot returns for trends. While it is close “MGP” has a stronger early lead than some polls anticipated and is well positioned but with the state’s mail-in voting we likely won’t know for sure how that lead holds up until later this week.
Republican Congressman Dan Newhouse’s vote to impeach President Trump no doubt made his re-election much more difficult with him facing Republican challengers in both the primary and general elections. However, he leads by two points after the initial ballot release over Trump-backed Jerrod Sessler. This race may still tighten up in the coming days and it’ll likely be later this week before we know for sure, but Newhouse’ lead aligns with the expected coalition of supporters.
In the state’s 5th Congressional District where Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers is retiring, we can confirm that current Spokane County Treasurer and former State Senator Michael Baumgartner, R-Spokane, will win and head to D.C.
On the other side of the state where Rep. Derek Kilmer is retiring from the 6th Congressional District, current State Senator Emily Randall, D-Bremerton, has a large lead and will win and become the new congressional representative for the district with her opponent already conceding.
