Together, We Can Summit Life’s Highest Peaks

GoWest Credit Union Association Kicks Off Annual Event

Denver, CO (Oct. 14, 2024) – Welcoming advocates, staff and those serving credit unions and their members across six western states, GoWest Credit Union Association’s President and CEO Troy Stang took to the stage to highlight the incredible impact credit unions and cooperations have for nearly 18 million members, especially in current economic conditions. “You are the institutions entrusted with the financial well-being of 18 million members… Whether it’s the steep ascent toward buying a first home, the challenging trek of paying for education, or the weighty decisions of helping one’s parents transition into assisted living; credit unions are a critical partner on that trail of life.

At a time when members need more options and financial freedom than ever, Stang demonstrated how the Rocky Mountains are much like the obstacles members can face in life. “These Rocky Mountains can be a symbol of the hopes and dreams of credit union members. And with determination, hope, the right tools and courage, even the highest peaks have proven to be achievable. These Rockies are no different than the paths our members must climb in their lives.

Stang was joined by Sharee Adkins, Chief Impact Officer and Executive Director of the GoWest Foundation, and Jennifer Wanger, Executive Vice President and Chief Advocacy Officer for GoWest. They highlighted the Tucson Welcome Home program, which the GoWest Foundation announced as a new way to make the dream of homeownership a reality for first-time homebuyers in Tucson. They also featured the GoWest Foundation grants which enabled credit unions to help create and deploy over 500 loans to entrepreneurs and small business owners through the Washington Small Business Resiliency Loan Program.

The vision of hope and possibility kicked off the signature event that brings together credit union professionals, business solutions partners, thought leaders and industry experts to discuss impactful developments at the national, regional, state, and hyper-local levels, including legislative issues and advancements in financial technology.

Stang closed by calling all credit unions to be fierce advocates for the Credit Union Movement, “When we share our stories and the stories of credit union members, we start building mountains of compelling evidence, mountains rivaling the Rockies out there, of why credit unions are a critical part of our nation’s fabric and why the credit union model must not only be preserved, but enhanced to meet the evolving needs that we see in our communities.”
