Join the GoWest Foundation in Helping Our Credit Union Community Impacted by Hurricane Helene
Posted by Alyse Knudsen on October 1, 2024
In response to the devastation caused by Hurricane Helene, credit unions and credit union associations are coming together across the nation to support those affected. The catastrophic storm left regions across the southeast, particularly the Carolinas and Tennessee, in disarray with broken infrastructure, power outages, and continued flooding. In the spirit of “People Helping People,” GoWest and our counterparts at the regional and national levels are rallying around affected communities.
The GoWest Foundation is committed to helping those in need and is making a $10,000 donation to the National Credit Union Foundation’s CUAid disaster relief program. The National Credit Union Foundation has been involved in credit union disaster relief efforts for decades, and every penny donated to CUAid goes directly to credit union employees and volunteers affected by natural disasters.
The Carolinas Credit Union Foundation is also working tirelessly to provide aid for their credit unions, employees, and volunteers through its Disaster Relief fund, which is available for the immediate needs of those affected by natural disasters.
Preparing ahead of time, the League of Southeastern Credit Unions and the Southeastern Credit Union Foundation (SECUF) had staff deploy food, water, formula, mobile branches, and other emergency supplies to help restore critical services in the affected areas. The SECUF’s Disaster Relief Fund is also providing immediate financial assistance to those in need.
Over the years, credit unions across the GoWest region have rallied time and again to help people through the pandemic, wildfires, ice storms, flooding, and hurricanes outside of our six-state region. The GoWest Foundation is proud to be a part of a movement that continues to put people first!
