Credit Union Celebrations Planned for April’s #CUYouthMonth

April is more than just a transition into spring; it’s also Youth Savings Month, a time to celebrate and encourage financial literacy and responsibility among young people.

As piggy banks are dusted off and allowances are saved, credit unions are gearing up to play a pivotal role in shaping the financial futures for our youth. Let’s take a look at how Fibre Federal Credit Union and Horizon Credit Union plan to celebrate and educate future generations about the Credit Union Difference during #CUYouthMonth.

Sand Dollars Coloring Contest and Savings Challenge with Fibre Federal Credit Union

Fibre Federal Credit Union and TLC will be encouraging young members to catch the save wave with their Youth Savings Month Sand Dollars Coloring Contest and Savings Challenge.

Coloring contest sheets—featuring Cash Club mascots Cash the Dog and Penny the Cat—will be available for download online, printed in lobbies, and inserted into printed statements and e-Statements. Members under the age of 11 will be eligible to participate and have the chance to nab cash prizes awarded to winners in five age categories.

They will also hold their annual savings challenge, encouraging every member under 18 to make a $10 or more deposit into their savings account to be entered to win prizes, including Newport Aquarium getaway packages and cash prizes.

In addition to the exciting contests and giveaways, Fibre FCU will be taking the traditional approach to showcase messaging tailored to young savers through lobby screens, reader boards, social media, lobby flyers and posters, and on-hold messages, all with the goal of instilling lifelong habits that promote financial well-being.

Building Strong Financial Futures with Horizon Credit Union

Horizon Credit Union will be offering deals for new youth accounts and hosting educational financial courses for kids and parents alike this April.

From lemonade stands in the summertime or after-school gigs to save for college, Horizon believes children can learn how to be financially savvy at any age, and will be hosting short, fun online HZCU Pop-Up classes every Tuesday at 3 p.m. PT (4 p.m. MT) throughout the month of April to kick off the financial learning journey for kids and their parents and caregivers.

Along with pop-up classes, kids of all ages can hone their financial prowess at Horizon’s free Financial Training Ground. Children can learn about checking and savings basics, early budgeting fundamentals and money management skills with short, fun videos and supplemental handouts.

Also in April, Horizon will match the first $5 in deposits for new youth checking and savings accounts!* Visit hzcu.org/youth to learn more.

*Insured by NCUA. Deposit match applies to first $5 only for youth accounts (ages 0-18) opened during the month of April 2023. Offer expires 4/30/23.
