Merrilou Harrison named Chair of Solarity Credit Union’s Board of Directors

Solarity Credit Union, based in Yakima, Washington, has appointed Merrilou Harrison as Chair of the Board of Directors. Harrison was elected unanimously by her peers. The announcement was made at the credit union’s annual membership meeting on February 21, 2024, and confirmed by the Board at their regular meeting immediately following.

Harrison is the first woman to serve as Chair of the Board for Solarity. She is preceded by Terry Morgan, who served as Board Chair for the past five years. She joined the credit union’s Board in 2016 and was Vice Chair from 2021 to 2023. She also served as Chair of the Governance Committee for the past two years.

Harrison is a lifelong educator who began her journey as a first-grade teacher, taught at every grade level and ultimately served as Dean of Heritage University’s College of Education. She has earned both Principal and Superintendent certificates, and has served as a national consultant for Solution Tree, a professional development company and publisher of educational material for K–12 educators. She is currently the Principal of Christ the Teacher Catholic School in Yakima, WA.

“I am honored to serve the credit union and its members as the first female Board Chair,” Harrison stated after the meeting. “I am committed to representing the interests of our members and using my background and experience to lead the Board for the benefit of the cooperative and all of its members.

“Merrilou is an amazing leader, a strong advocate for members, and is well respected by her peers,” said Solarity President and CEO Mina Worthington. “She brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the position, and we are pleased to have her guidance as Chair.”
