Job Description:

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS 
  • SERVES AS A MANAGER – Oversee and support the performance of processing, outside & inside home loan officers by providing expert guidance in borrower interviews, product recommendations, workflow and loan structuring based on applicant qualifications and needs. Ensure both the sales & processing teams are well-versed in Red Canoe’s full suite of mortgage products, rates, and programs. 
  • BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT –  Serve as a strategic liaison between the sales team and key external partners including real estate agents, builders, title companies, and escrow officers—to ensure a seamless and timely loan process, while reinforcing Red Canoe’s reputation in the community. Expected to spend significant amount of time completing outbound sales functions and accompanying team members to appointments in all markets in the credit unions footprint. This position will originate loans as needed. 
  • PRODUCT CHANNEL MANAGEMENT – Responsible for maintaining relationships and developing new workflows for all product channels. Including New Construction, Wholesale, Correspondent, GSE Direct and internal Portfolio products. 
  • SALES & PROCESSOR TRAINING – Champion a performance driven culture by promoting the delivery of originations that exceed Red Canoe’s lending benchmarks, while aligning with departmental sales strategy and service expectations. 
  • COMPLIANCE – Observes policies and procedures and all applicable laws & regulations; works with VP of Home Lending to ensure Quality Control and Quality Assurance guidelines are being met; make recommendations for improvements; ensures departmental adherence and monitors and tracks training. Develops and maintains an expert knowledge of all Mortgage products and programs. 
  • PLANNING/BUDGETING – Assists management in developing short/long-term goals and creation of the annual budget for home lending 
  • LEADERSHIP & STAFF DEVELOPMENT – Responsible for professional development through effective and honest coaching, mentoring, and training to develop and encourage employee growth. Meet with staff on a timely basis for the purpose of conducting performance evaluations and monitor performance. Recruit, manage, develop, and retain a team of production employees who originate mortgage loans, process loans, manage pipelines and develop referral sources in line with Red Canoe brand standards and core values. Works with the VP of Home Lending and HR regarding employee progressive disciplinary actions, 
  • STAFFING – Ensure adequate staffing is always maintained as to deliver the highest possible quality service to the members. 

 

OTHER CRITICAL JOB & MANAGEMENT DUTIES 
  • Demonstrate knowledge of real estate and finance. Provides consistent coaching, training, and professional development opportunities to loan officers & processors to enhance product knowledge, sales acumen, and regulatory compliance awareness. 
  • Follow and be knowledgeable of home loan department and services, loan officer guidelines, and credit union policies and procedures approved by the Board of Directors. 
  • Foster a positive, collaborative culture where team members are motivated to meet and exceed individual and team production goals. 
  • Identify skill gaps and implement individualized development plans to support growth and career progression within the organization. 
  • Community partnership and business development that up to 50% of daily activities will be spent outside the credit union headquarters, building referral partnerships for the sales team.  
  • Originates new member home loans during initial onboarding of new strategic relationships. Includes, builders, realtors, affinity relationships, etc. 
  • Lead and manage both the inside sales team and outside business development home loan officers. 
  • Oversee total mortgage production across all channels. 
  • Supervise the mortgage processing team, ensuring streamlined operations and top-tier member service. 
  • Develop and implement strategies to grow mortgage volume and deepen member relationships. 
  • Partner with marketing and branch leadership to support outreach, campaigns, and referral growth. 
  • Monitor sales performance, set goals, and provide coaching and accountability. 
  • Ensure compliance with lending policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements. 
  • Represent Red Canoe in the community and build strong referral networks. 

 

BASIC REQUIREMENTS 
  • Experience in analyzing all areas of a home loan package. URLA, client income, assets, title, appraisal and all other applicable areas of origination. 
  • Strong negotiating, analytical and mathematical abilities. 
  • Must be bondable. 
  • Must be will to travel within Washington & Oregon. 
  • Demonstrate exceptional self-motivational skills ability to work in a fast-paced, production-oriented environment while ensuring deadlines are met. 
  • Registered in the Nationwide Mortgage Licensing System & Registry (NMLS)  
  • Possess a high level of leadership, interpersonal and sales skills. 
  • Demonstrate the ability to make sound lending decisions. 
  • Possess a professional demeanor and have excellent written and verbal communication skills. 

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS 
  • Minimum of 5 years mortgage lending or mortgage sales are required.  
  • Minimum of 2 years management experience in home lending or finance. 
  • Minimum of Associates degree or equivalent experience. 
  • Demonstrated computer/PC & keyboarding skills; plus, calculator and other office machines proficiency.  
  • Ability to read English by sight; and, both speak and write English. 
  • Ability to hear by telephone and in person. 
  • Valid State driver’s license. 

 

JOB RELATIONSHIPS 
  • This position reports directly to the VP of Home Lending. May have day-to-day contact with employees, management team, members, Board of Directors, and outside organizations.

Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus. A telephone device to enhance hearing will be provided if needed. Occasional light lifting. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds. Periodic inter-branch or interdepartmental access may be required, including for distribution and access to various materials, equipment, meetings, etc. Storage and retrieval of materials, maximum reach required is 84 inches.

Transport within remote branch and/or main office/facility may be single or multilevel (as required) including a variety of stairways, elevators, etc. Exposure to computer and other electronic equipment. Lunch/break area exposed to microwave; and, is located in basement at main office. Facility is 100% free of tobacco smoke.  
  • Equipment – Essential equipment used includes, but may not be limited to: telephone, personal computer, other on-line computer terminal(s), calculator, and office security systems. Non-essential equipment generally includes paper shredder, typewriter, photocopy machine, facsimile (fax) machine, automobile, etc.
