  • The President/CEO role is a contractual position with an initial term and renewal terms thereafter, as mutual agreed upon.
  • Hiring salary range is $185,000 to $245,000 per year, depending on experience

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.  Other duties may be assigned.

  • Keeps the Board informed of substantive issues related to operation, audit findings, growth opportunities and other pertinent issues.
  • Supplies the necessary guidance to assist the Board in recommending short- and long-term objectives for the credit union.
  • Develops regular schedule for making financial progress reports to the Board of Directors with statistical data supplied on a consistent basis including comparative data, charts and graphs.
  • Dispenses advice, guidance, direction, and authorization to carry out major plans and procedures, consistent with established policies and Board approval.
  • Provides strategic direction in all credit union functions to include: accounting, ALM, branch operations, business development, compliance, facility management, human resources, information technology, investments, lending, marketing, and risk management, fraud and security.
  • Oversees the adequacy and soundness of the organization’s financial structure including the on‑going operation of a computerized Asset Liability Management program, functional cost accounting systems, non‑earning asset control and liquidity.
  • Reviews operating results of the organization, compares them to established objectives, and takes steps to ensure that appropriate measures are taken to correct unsatisfactory results.
  • Ensures the credit union is in compliance with all federal, state and local laws and regulatory agencies as applicable.
  • Maintains adequate knowledge of cyber security risks and protocols. Oversees the appropriate risk-management tools to continually improve the credit union’s cyber resilience and adapt to changes in technology and cyber exposure.
  • Attends all board and special meetings. Establishes and maintains an effective system of communication throughout the organization.
  • Represents the organization including communication with shareholders, the financial community, regulatory bodies, credit union trade associations, and the general public.
  • Leads by example to foster and maintain an open and cooperative atmosphere; provides leadership related to communication, training and appropriate information sharing.
  • Is responsible for the prudent management of credit union assets, including real estate owned, furnishings and equipment, automobiles, investments, computerization, and investments in Credit Union Service Organizations.
  • Directs the development of programs, policies, strategies and practices to sustain a diverse, equitable, and inclusive environment that respects employees, members and communities.
  • Responsible for the hiring, promotions, transfers, and discharges of all staff including the design and maintenance of an effective organization design, developing a management team and providing the leadership to ensure effective, efficient and productive operation.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Directly supervises and coaches the Senior Management Team.  Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of all branches and departments to assure financial stability, well-managed operations, excellent member service, and active community support.

Provides the leadership that ensures supervisory responsibilities are effectively and efficiently carried out by subordinates in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

 

PERFORMANCE STANDARDS:

The performance standard for this position includes the following:

  • Adherence to sound business and financial practices in all credit union business transactions.
  • Attaining the key goals established by the Board of Directors.
  • Achievement of multiple “bottom lines” of the credit union including profitability, liquidity, social equity, economic objectives, and good corporate citizen.

 

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

Minimum/Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance or Accounting, or equivalent experience.
  • At least five years of management experience, within the credit union industry or banking industry, directly overseeing the work of others, with a minimum of three of the five years in a senior management position.
  • Must have strong knowledge of financial institution balance sheet/liquidity risk and investments. Understanding of the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) to assess the impact on accounting processes and ensure compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) is necessary.

Preferred: Master’s or higher advanced degree in Business, Finance or Accounting, or equivalent experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from members regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.  Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format.  Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

 

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
