Position Summary
The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) provides leadership and oversight for the financial operations of Richland Federal Credit Union. This role is responsible for financial reporting, budgeting, regulatory compliance, and financial analysis, while supporting the strategic direction of the credit union.

This position offers the option of remote or hybrid work, with regular virtual collaboration and periodic on-site visits for key meetings, examinations, and strategic planning.
This is a hands-on leadership role. The CFO is expected to provide strategic financial leadership while also directly performing many day-to-day accounting, financial reporting, and transactional responsibilities that may traditionally be delegated to accounting staff. The CFO must be able to operate at both the executive and transactional levels of the credit union.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Management & Reporting
- Oversee accounting and financial operations, including general ledger, month-end close, and financial reporting.
- Prepare accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP and regulatory requirements.
- Ensure strong internal controls and compliance with NCUA regulations.
- Coordinate external audits and regulatory examinations (remote and on-site participation).
Budgeting & Financial Planning
- Assist in the development and monitoring of the annual budget and financial forecasts.
- Analyze financial performance and provide variance reporting to leadership.
- Support long-term financial planning in collaboration with the CEO and Board.
Asset/Liability & Risk Oversight (Training Supported)
- Participate in Asset/Liability Management (ALM) activities and reporting.
- Monitor liquidity, capital adequacy, and interest rate risk.
- Prepare board-ready financial and ALM reports, with training and mentorship provided as needed.
Leadership & Collaboration
- Supervise and support accounting and finance staff.
- Collaborate with department leaders across the organization using remote tools and scheduled in-person engagement.
- Promote accountability, accuracy, and a service-oriented culture.
Board & Executive Support
- Prepare financial reports and presentations for the Board of Directors.
- Present financial information clearly and effectively, both virtually and in person.
- Support Board committees and strategic planning sessions.
Other Duties
- Perform and oversee day-to-day accounting, financial reporting, and operational finance functions.
- Maintain accountability for both strategic financial oversight and the execution of day-to-day accounting operations.
- Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications & Experience
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field
- 3–7 years of progressive experience in accounting or finance
- Strong understanding of financial statements, internal controls, and reporting
- Proficiency in accounting systems, Microsoft Excel, and virtual collaboration tools
- High level of integrity, professionalism, and self-direction
Preferred (Not Required)
- Experience in a credit union, community bank, or regulated financial institution
- Prior leadership or supervisory experience
- CPA, CMA, or MBA
- Exposure to budgeting, forecasting, or ALM concepts
Work Arrangement & Location Flexibility
This position offers remote or hybrid work flexibility. The successful candidate must be able to travel periodically to Sidney, Montana to participate in board meetings, regulatory examinations, strategic planning sessions, and other organizational activities as required. Relocation is not required, although candidates with established connections to the region are strongly encouraged to apply.

Physical Demands & Work Environment
This position is primarily performed in an office or remote work environment. The employee must be able to communicate effectively, use a computer and standard office equipment for extended periods, and occasionally lift or move up to 20 pounds. Periodic travel is required for board meetings, regulatory examinations, and strategic planning sessions.

Compensation
$115,000.00 – $155,000.00 / year
