David Curtis
Director, Compliance Services

David Curtis is the director of compliance services at the GoWest Credit Union Association. In this role he is responsible for responding to credit union compliance inquiries, informing and instructing credit unions on new compliance responsibilities through updates and council meetings. He is a liaison, facilitator, and presenter at both the compliance and collectors’ networking councils. Curtis also updates and audits the information on Infosight, contributes weekly articles to the Anthem newsletter and researches compliance requests for the legislative and regulatory teams.

Curtis graduated from University of Montana with a business administration degree in finance and marketing. He’s earned certification as a Credit Union Compliance Expert (CUCE) from CUNA. Prior to joining the compliance department at the Association, Curtis spent 4 years as an online banking product analyst at a for-profit financial institution.

The people that make up the movement are Curtis’ favorite part of being involved with credit unions. He enjoys engaging with credit union professionals.

Kelley Hodney
Shareholder, Regulatory Compliance Lawyer

Kelley has seen the financial services industry from all angles: she worked on the regulatory side at the Oregon Department of Justice in the Consumer Protection & Financial Fraud Division, the internal and operational side with Wells Fargo, and now the advisor side as a regulatory compliance attorney.

This broad hands-on experience allows Kelley to understand client needs and provide concrete advice to financial service providers regarding regulatory, compliance, and operational matters.

The ever-changing regulatory atmosphere presents challenges for clients and opportunities to pro-actively assist them. Kelley maintains an in-depth understanding of issues affecting financial institutions, and provides timely compliance guidance to credit unions, banks, other financial service providers.

 

Glory LeDu
CEO, League InfoSight & CU Risk Intelligence

Glory LeDu is the CEO of League InfoSight and CU Risk Intelligence, providing compliance and risk management solutions tailored for credit unions nationwide, facilitated through strategic partnerships with credit union league/association partners.

LeDu has worked for over 20 years in the financial industry and goes beyond the executive role by actively engaging in the industry’s educational landscape. She regularly provides high-energy, comprehensive compliance training to credit union employees, officials, and examiners, contributing to the development and enhancement of industry expertise.

In addition to her executive responsibilities, LeDu is deeply connected to the credit union community, lending her insights on the Board of Directors for a local credit union, as well as a contributing board member for CU Risk Intelligence and Chair for CU Vendor Management (CUVM).

LeDu holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Northern Michigan University and a Master of Science degree from Pace University.

 

Hal Scoggins
Shareholder, Legal & Regulatory Lawyer

Since 1991, Hal has been representing credit unions, banks, and other financial service providers on state and federal regulatory compliance matters, contract negotiation, dispute resolution, corporate governance, subsidiary operations, mergers, loan and deposit documentation, real estate, bankruptcy and collection, and other issues related to structuring and delivering financial services to consumers and businesses.

His in-depth industry knowledge and practical legal advice help financial service providers meet the challenges of today’s changing regulatory environment.

Hal has extensive experience in payment systems issues, helping clients navigate Uniform Commercial Code Articles 3, 4, and 4A, the Nacha rules, and various Federal Reserve rules and circulars. Hal provides consumer and business loan and deposit account documentation and disclosures, and helps clients resolve account disputes, regulatory, governance, and transactional matters, and navigate other operational challenges.

He is the immediate past chair of the American Bar Association’s Business Section’s Credit Union Committee and is active with the ABA Consumer Financial Services Committee, and keeps up to date on potential legislation and regulations affecting financial institutions.

 

Justin Whitesides
Shareholder, Credit Union Lawyer

Justin creates solutions and solves problems for credit unions in the most efficient way possible. After nearly a decade as general counsel for a credit union, where he was also a member of senior management, Justin has unique insight into how laws, regulations, and supervisory pressures affect all aspects of a credit union and its membership. Justin’s guidance is goal-oriented, practical, and easy-to-understand.

While serving as general counsel, Justin’s key areas of responsibility included corporate governance, compliance, audit, human resources, collections, vendor management, and information security – in addition to all the legal issues that came from any other part of the organization. Justin is skilled at working with staff at all levels to ensure their goals are met and they understand the legal boundaries that apply to what they do.

Before his in-house experience, Justin was a regulatory compliance attorney at Farleigh Wada Witt for several years. Even his first job before law school – and his first savings account – was with a credit union. Justin is a member of the American Bar Association’s Business Section’s Credit Union Committee and is active with the ABA Consumer Financial Services Committee and keeps up to date on potential legislation and regulations affecting financial institutions. Justin is a frequent speaker on these matters and provides related training on a regular basis.
