BIOGRAPHY:

From fundraising in the nonprofit sector to leading philanthropic giving initiatives, Rafael’s career has centered on partnership development and credit union philanthropy. By studying Healthcare Leadership and Community Planning at the University of Washington, Rafael has gained helpful skills and strategies to engage diverse communities and stakeholders across sectors. Rafael strongly believes in cooperatives serving as major drivers for social impact which has led him to work for Gesa Credit Union and now BECU as well as earning a Credit Union Development Educator designation from the National Credit Union Foundation. In addition to helping lead BECU’s philanthropic giving efforts, Rafael also serves as a Co-Chair of BECU’s Latinx Employee Resource Group due to his passion for inclusion and uplifting his Latinx culture. Rafael is also an active member of the National Association of Latino Credit Unions and Professionals (NLCUP) and has become a champion in sharing its mission across the industry.
