Job Description:
Role Description You’ll have responsibility for both the relationship side and credit side of indirect lending.
Underwrite and Buy Auto Loans
• Review indirect auto loan applications submitted through CUDL and other approved channels.
• Analyze credit reports, income, employment, debt obligations, collateral values, loan-to-value, debt-to-income, payment-to-income, and overall credit risk.
• Approve, decline, counteroffer, and condition loans within your assigned lending authority.
• Structure deals that make sense for the borrower, dealer, and Credit Union.
• Work with dealerships to find responsible ways to make good deals work rather than simply approving or declining applications.
• Determine appropriate loan amounts, terms, rates, advances, and stipulations.
• Make timely, competitive credit decisions in a fast-moving dealership environment.
• Review loan documentation and ensure approval conditions are satisfied before loans are purchased or funded.
Build Strong Dealer Relationships
• Develop and maintain productive relationships with automobile dealerships and finance managers.
• Become a trusted lending contact dealers know they can call when they have a deal to discuss.
• Provide responsive, consistent, and professional service to dealer partners.
• Help dealers understand Idaho United’s credit appetite, programs, rates, terms, and lending requirements.
• Visit dealerships and maintain regular communication with dealer partners.
• Identify opportunities to increase application volume and funded loans from existing dealers.
• Help develop new dealer relationships and expand Idaho United’s presence in the market.
• Listen to dealer feedback and help us continuously improve our indirect lending program.
Grow a Quality Loan Portfolio
We want to grow – but we want to grow the right way.
You’ll help balance loan production with credit quality, yield, profitability, and long-term portfolio performance.
• Look for opportunities to increase quality indirect loan production.
• Monitor trends in dealer and loan performance.
• Understand how your lending decisions affect delinquency, charge-offs, yield, and profitability.
• Recognize potential fraud, misrepresentation, inflated collateral values, straw purchases, and other lending risks.
• Use portfolio performance to continuously improve future credit decisions.
• Help Idaho United acquire new members through indirect lending.
What Success Looks Like
A successful Indirect Lending Officer doesn’t simply approve a lot of loans.
Success means building a portfolio of quality, profitable loans while developing dealer relationships that consistently generate good business.
We’ll look at things such as:
• Funded indirect loan growth
• Quality dealer relationships
• New dealer development
• Application-to-funding conversion
• Credit decision turnaround time
• Portfolio yield and profitability
• Delinquency and charge-off performance
• Credit quality
• Dealer satisfaction and retention
• New-member growth
What We’re Looking For
We’re looking for someone who understands that indirect lending is both a people business and a credit business.
You may be a great fit if you have:
• Experience in indirect auto lending, consumer lending, underwriting, dealership finance, or automotive lending.
• Strong consumer credit underwriting skills.
• The ability to read a credit report and understand the complete credit picture.
• Knowledge of loan-to-value, debt-to-income, payment-to-income, negative equity, collateral valuation, and risk-based pricing.
• The ability to confidently approve, decline, counter, and structure loans.
• Strong relationship-building and communication skills.
• The ability to have productive conversations with dealership finance managers.
• Good judgment and the confidence to make lending decisions independently.
• A competitive mindset while still maintaining disciplined credit standards.
• Strong problem-solving and negotiation skills.
• The ability to work quickly without sacrificing accuracy.
• A willingness to get out of the office and develop dealer relationships.
Experience with CUDL or another indirect lending platform is preferred but not required.
Credit union, bank, dealership F&I, automotive finance, or indirect lending experience is highly valued.
