Overview
GENERAL PURPOSE
The Universal Associate (UA) is the primary front-line contact for members, delivering accurate and efficient transactional and account services while identifying opportunities to meet members’ financial needs. This role provides consultative support to prospective and existing members and is responsible for opening and maintaining standard account types in accordance with credit union policies and standards. The UA operates within established procedures to support daily branch operations and deliver a consistent, positive member experience by balancing service, sales, and operational accuracy.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

- Welcome members to the branch, assist with their orientation, and guide them in using branch technology and additional services like online or mobile banking and remote deposit capture
- Posess foundational knowledge of all credit union products and services, to recommend the best options for each member.
- Meet individual and branch sales and referral goals.
- Build loyal member relationships by understanding their needs, providing sound advice, and tailoring financial solutions to each member.
- Accurately and promptly process teller transactions and account maintenance or escalate complex needs as appropriate.
- Process new account applications for basic account types, following Credit Union standards.
- Assist members with needs such as online/mobile banking support, account reconciliations, and, general account servicing.
- Consult with account applicants and existing members about their current and future financial needs.
- Open general new accounts , and address questions related to accounts and loans.
- Demonstrate initiative, a commitment to continuous learning and the ability to adapt to changing demands and requirements.
- Collaborate effectively with team members to provide exceptional service and enhance the members’ experience.
- Support promotions and strategies to achieve Credit Union goals.
- Assist branch management with compliance, policies and procedures, balancing, branch audits, branch opening and closing processes, monthly reporting, and member service issues.
- Ensure compliance with all company, state, and federal rules and regulations (including BSA, fair lending, and more)
- Adhere to all service standards outlined in the Credit Union’s policies and procedures.
- Participate in Credit Union business development and community relations activities.
- Perform other duties as needed or requested.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY
- Demonstrates accuracy in the handling of cash, balancing transactions, and maintaining transaction records.
- Maintains mental alertness, professionalism, punctuality and a cooperative attitude.
- Possesses strong member service skills, including the ability to actively listen, ask effective questions, identify member needs and provide appropriate solutions.
- Communicate clearly and concisely in verbal and written form.
- Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations and accurately process financial transactions.
- Self-motivated and capable of independently developing and maintaining product and service knowledge.
- Demonstrates a friendly and energetic disposition that promotes a positive member experience.
- Develop a comprehensive understanding of all departments and knows when and how to refer members to the appropriate resource.
EDUCATION, FORMAL TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent training/experience.
- Previous sales or customer service experience required.
- Six months to one year of banking or loan experience is preferred.
