Job Description:

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Strategic Leadership and Operational Planning – 25%

  • Develop and implement strategic plans, actionable goals, and departmental programs that align with the Credit Union’s overall business objectives.
  • Provide leadership, insight, and direction to ensure successful execution of operational and strategic initiatives.
  • Demonstrate leadership by modeling CWCU Values and creating a culture of accountability, excellence, and engagement.
  • Exhibit managerial courage by addressing issues directly and providing timely, actionable feedback.

 

Accounting Oversight and Financial Reporting – 30%

  • Oversee the Credit Union’s accounting operations, including general ledger integrity, chart of accounts maintenance, and month-end close processes.
  • Ensure timely and accurate preparation of monthly financial statements, quarterly NCUA 5300 Call Reports, and other regulatory submissions.
  • Perform duties in compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and regulatory requirements.
  • Coordinate with accounting software vendors to ensure system integrity and workflow efficiency.
  • Make sound decisions based on analysis, resources, and organizational priorities.

 

Team Development and Staff Leadership – 15%

  • Provide coaching, mentoring, and performance feedback to accounting staff to support their development and engagement.
  • Set individual and departmental goals aligned with Credit Union strategy; monitor progress and provide guidance as needed.
  • Foster a collaborative, high-performing team environment through continuous support and recognition.
  • Develop trust among team members, encourage open dialogue, and promote a culture where employees propose new ideas and challenge the status quo.
  • Recognize strong performance and address underperformance effectively, ensuring accountability and a sense of belonging.

 

Budgeting, Analysis, and Process Improvement – 15%

  • Provide critical support for the annual budgeting process, including data collection, forecasting, and reporting.
  • Analyze workflows and recommend improvements to increase operational efficiency and reduce costs.
  • Oversee financial statement analysis and identify trends, risks, and opportunities to support data-driven decision-making.
  • Manage priorities by focusing on high-impact activities and eliminating roadblocks to goal achievement.

 

Vendor and Stakeholder Relations – 10%

  • Manage relationships and contractual agreements with vendors and suppliers related to accounting and finance systems.
  • Prepare presentations, reports, and financial insights for internal stakeholders, including leadership and the Board of Directors as required.
  • Ensure excellent service delivery to internal and external stakeholders through effective management and communication.

 

Compliance, Values, and Community Engagement – 5%

  • Perform all responsibilities in accordance with CWCU Values, compliance policies, regulatory guidelines, and information protection requirements.
  • Actively support and participate in community engagement initiatives sponsored by the Credit Union.
  • Carry out additional duties and responsibilities as assigned to support organizational goals.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must demonstrate strong organization, planning, staff development, and leadership skills, including the ability to establish clear objectives and responsibilities for the team.
  • Must demonstrate strong communication skills, both written and verbal, to disseminate information to the wider organization in a relevant and contextual manner.
  • Must demonstrate ability to design, implement, and maintain financial management programs, plans, and initiatives.
  • Working knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
  • Ability to collect pertinent data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions, as well as formulate ideas and recommendations.
  • Excellent interpersonal, problem-solving, and presentation skills to effectively address problems, communicate with management, staff, and outside contacts.
  • High level of expertise in the use of personal computers in a networked environment with excellent spreadsheet, database, accounting, analysis, and word processing experience required.
  • Financial institution experience highly desired.

 

 

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • A bachelor’s degree in business administration or a related field with emphasis in accounting or demonstrated experience required. CPA, CMA, or CFA preferred.
  • A minimum of five to seven (5-7) years leadership level Finance/Treasury/Accounting experience in a financial institution, or comparable work experience.
  • A minimum of three to five (3-5) years of progressively responsible work experience in a management or supervisory role.
